Galata
Steep lanes, design shops and the city's best-known tower
Galata climbs the hill above Karaköy in a tangle of cobbled lanes, independent shops and cafés. The tower at the top gives a 360-degree view over the Golden Horn and the old city, and the surrounding streets are made for slow wandering rather than ticking off sights.
